Inclusion: Older Adults at Judea Reform

Chair: Iris Weiss

Goals

  • Educate the JRC community about removing barriers to participation of older adults in JRC worship and other activities.
  • Work with staff and other JRC committees to facilitate greater involvement of older adults in synagogue activities.

What the JRC community has accomplished

  • Improved the quality of sound in the sanctuary;
  • Provided additional large-print prayer books, and assistive listening devices.
  • Initiated streaming of worship services so they can be viewed remotely.
  • Created an Easy Access Entrance for High Holy Day Services, with volunteers assisting as needed.
  • Enhanced worship services, including more frequent references to page numbers and instructions to speakers for more effective use of microphones.
  • Implemented the Rides for Seniors program to provide rides to JRC worship services for those who would otherwise be unable to attend.  For more information, click here.

Other resources for older adults

Our seniors have access to resources that can address issues that go beyond the Inclusion: Older Adults subcommittee's mission of facilitating participation in JRC activities.

Judea's Caring Community supports congregants in times of change, whether grieving a loss, facing an acute illness, or living with chronic health challenges.
