Chanukah at JRC

Light the first candle on the evening of Sunday, December 7th, 2023, and the eighth candle on the evening of Sunday, December 15, 2023.

Chanukah is the joyous eight-day celebration during which Jews commemorate the victory of the Maccabees over the armies of Syria in 165 B.C.E. and the subsequent liberation and "rededication" of the Temple in Jerusalem. Around the world, Jews light Chanukah menorahs for eight nights, remembering miraculous stories and courageous heroes. At Judea Reform, we have a special service, and we often have a Chanukah party with latkes and games and music.  Want to learn more about Chanukah? Click here for more about the holiday's observances and traditions.
